Costa Rica Seeds can provide tremendous help for its ability to increase two production rounds in only 180 days during the winter. Planting late October and thanks to our proximity to the United States, the seed is sent back with plenty of time for spring planting.

Send your beans to us and from one pound planted we will easy harvest 20 pounds in the first round of production.

Immediately replanted, second round will yield 600 pounds of high quality seed.

Cañas

This location shows a decrease on precipitation after September and December is perfect for harvesting.

Adequate for first increases, planting in October and harvesting on December.

Group Is through VIs cycle from 75 to 85 days. Normally, we harvest 20 times the number of pounds that we plant.

But what makes this area very special is how fast we can advance generations all year round by single seed descent.

Upala

Group Os through VIs perform very well and cycle from 85 to 100 days.

Planting second increase on January we can harvest excellent seed quality by April. Normally yields are 30 times the pounds planted. This is the area where we plant blocks under lights and crossing blocks under lights also.

Some times we run first increases in this area, mainly F1 hills (that have to be planted no later that October 15th to get two generation advances successfully) and very early beans that perform such fast that first cycle can be done here with better results.

Plants grown under lights perform very well. F1s Group I yield 250 seed and Group V around 800 seed, taking from 120 to 140 days from planting through harvest.

Normally it rains enough for beans to perform very well that sprinkle irrigation is available just in case supplementary irrigation is needed.

Generation Advances:

Generation advances are planted the year around, harvesting by single seed descend and what we call strict single seed descend.

With our two Almaco SP4 we have capacity to thresh 15000 single plants a day if necessarily. Data from flower color, herbicide reaction, pubescence color and pod color are collected if necessarily.

Growouts:

As many plots as you want can be planted. SP4s are used to thresh our 6, 3 or 1 mt plots, threshing 600 plots a day easely.

Seed Increases:

Our capability to perform two rounds of production from late October to harvest middle April and send the seed back to you by late April has made us very famous. Going from 1 pound planted to 600 pounds sent back. Seed increases for conventional and transgenic (RR and LL) are run satisfactorily, keeping good isolation from GMOs and conventional material to avoid contamination especially to your human consumption soybeans. Our way to thresh, clean and package can assure the purity of your varieties.

We normally do two walks through the fields discarding out types plants, one during flowering and the other just prior to harvest.

Projects under lights:

Plants under lights performed very well in our Upala Station, we normally give four hours of extra light, and plant seeds plenty of space to increase yields. This kind of project is very convenient for your F1 seeds were each seed is handled as an individual, taking data about: germination, flower color, herbicide reaction, pubescence color and pod color.

F1 plants are harvested individually most of the times.

Crosses:

Cross service has being provide since 1999 and at this time we have more than 10 girls that cross for us as part time workers and two full time workers. Our success is good but isn’t as good as in the United States.

To have success we have to plant crossing blocks under lights, this helps us to have better flower and it easier to synchronize flowering. We also normally plant three planting dates, eight days apart one from the other.

As plants under lights take 120 days to mature and three planting dates are used in crossing blocks, it takes 140 days to harvest all the crosses.
